Dallas Cowboys Spears promoted to starter
By JEAN-JACQUES TAYLOR / The Dallas Morning News IRVING –
TIDBIT: Coach Bill Parcells said defensive end Marcus Spears will be the third rookie to become a full-time starter, joining linebacker DeMarcus Ware and tackle Rob Petitti.
Spears, the 20th player selected in the draft, has started the last two games in place of defensive end Kenyon Coleman, who was deactivated for those games. Coleman, a four-year veteran, has started five games, but Parcells has been deactivating him when the Cowboys face teams like Seattle and Arizona that prefer to throw.
Spears had probably his best game of the season in Sunday's win over Arizona, with three tackles and two quarterback pressures.
"He was a little more active, but we've got to get him using his hands a little better," Parcells said. "He's playing with a little more confidence. I'm happy with him. You just have to keep on him a little bit."
