Defensive end Greg Ellis' tenure with the Cowboys might not be done yet.
Ellis' agent said he has spoken with Cowboys coach Bill Parcells with news that would be pleasing to his client.
"He said he intends to play him more," said James Williams, who represents Ellis. "The ball is in the Cowboys' court. Greg is still under contract. Bottom line: We anticipate sitting down with the Cowboys soon to talk about his future."
When asked the best way to characterize the situation between Ellis and the Cowboys, Williams said, "It's not cantankerous. It's not adversarial. It's just trying to find some common ground."
There is a good chance a decision will be made before Ellis is due a $500,000 roster bonus next month.
Ellis said after the season ended that he thought he would play elsewhere next season, primarily because he felt he didn't fit into the Cowboys' 3-4 defensive scheme. Despite playing a reduced role, especially in the last half of the season, Ellis still finished with eight sacks.
Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said from the Senior Bowl last month he expected Ellis to "have a lot more years with the Cowboys."
