Cowboys using TNT in 2006

Cowboys using TNT in 2006

I'm just going to refer to our starting wideouts, Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn, as TNT, because they should be explosive this year. If TNT can put up their regular numbers together on the same team, the 2006 Cowboys just might be Air Parcells. Yes, I'm saying that partly tongue-in-cheek, but Parcells isn't scared to throw the ball. I only need to remind you that Drew Bledsoe still holds the record for pass attempts in a season, 691 in 1994, under then Patriots coach Bill Parcells. In fact, for three straight years they averaged around 650 attempts a season. I'm not suggesting that will happen this year, but with TNT on the edges even Parcells won't be stubborn enough to ignore that kind of talent.

When the Cowboys let Keyshawn Johnson go they turned a team strength into a weakness. Just as quickly, by adding Terrell Owens, they turned wide receiver into what is probably the strongest position on the team. We're not deep, but at the top we are on par with any tandem in the league. TNT ranks up there with Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, and the newly-minted duo of Steve Smith and Keyshawn Johnson.

I'm not the only one excited about the thought of TNT blowing up on Sundays, one of the T's himself is pumped. From dallascowboys.com:
"I was all for it," [Terry] Glenn said when asked about the addition of Owens. "When you get a guy like that, he makes you better, just like that. No offense to anyone else, but Terrell Owens is a one-of-a-kind player. I couldn't be more excited about having him here."

"I said, 'Oh yeah. Come on T.O. Jump on T.O.,'" Glenn said. "They're gonna leave me over here by myself and that's when I'm gonna sink my fangs into them."

That last line is pretty sweet. Glenn has talked to Keyshawn since he signed with the Panthers and is already starting up the "better tandem" talk.

"I saw (Keyshawn Johnson) the other day and I told him, 'Hey, you guys know (you) have the second-best receiving corps now.' I sure did," Glenn said. "He just laughed and said 'We'll see.'

Meanwhile, over at the DMN (sub. required), Todd Archer is singing the Terry Glenn praises.

Among the top five Jones' era trades has to be the deal for Terry Glenn on Feb. 28, 2003. The Cowboys gave the Packers a 2004 sixth-round pick to reunite Glenn with Bill Parcells. The Packers shipped that pick to San Francisco, which used it on punter Andy Lee.
[snip]

Glenn has been what Joey Galloway was expected to be, and it did not cost the club two first-round picks to get him. He has made the deep ball part of the Cowboys' offense. He has made clutch catches, too, like the game-winner vs. Carolina last year.
This season, the Cowboys pair Glenn with Terrell Owens, giving them one of the best receiver tandems in the NFL. Both are over 30 (that magical number) but more than capable and should help each other tremendously.

Get ready NFL defenses, this fall TNT is headed your way.
