OXNARD, Calif. - Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells met with the media Tuesday afternoon.
ROSTER MOVES: Bill Parcells announced no new roster moves Tuesday morning at his daily press conference, but he did say several injured players should be back on the field in the very near future.
"Some of our injured guys are coming along pretty good," he said. "So I expect them to be out here shortly. Kind of making a push this week. We had a hard practice this morning. ... Got to get a lot done here.
"I think (Ryan) Fowler is making a lot of progress. (Bobby) Carpenter is. I don't think Terry (Glenn) will miss much more."
Parcells also said he likes what he's seen out of Marcus Spears, who returned to practice on Monday.
"Spears is doing pretty well right now but he needs a lot of work," he said.
GURODE STILL AHEAD: Parcells said that Andre Gurode is still ahead of Al Johnson for the starting center position, but that the job is not yet decided.
"I wouldn't say it's anybody job right now but Andre has been playing better than Al so far," he said. "He's been playing better, but when the four man fronts come, that's when Al has a better chance.
"Every team we play this year has a four-man front."
HATCHER THE PASS RUSHING SPECIALIST? Parcells offered some encouraging words for third round draft pick Jason Hatcher on Tuesday.
"I think he's going to be able to compete in the league against the pass right away," he said. "Against the run, he's got a little more work to do."
QUICK HITS: Parcells said he his not moving tackle Flozell Adams to the third team, despite the fact Adams practiced there Tuesday. "I'm not moving him to the third team. I'm not doing that. His knee is a little sore ... that's all." ... Parcells re-iterated Tuesday he's not sure what he's going to do behind nose tackle Jason Ferguson and hinted that he may move a defensive end to tackle if need be. "We've got five ends, six ends here. So I want to put the next best player in the rotation," he said. "That's an option for later." ... Parcells also said he switches from "evaluation mode" to "game mode" next week.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "Jason Ferguson is like an old car. I try to keep it on the road running. I don't want it to park, ever." Bill Parcells on starting nose tackle Jason Ferguson. QUOTE TO NOTE II: "If you don't have a philosophy in place in professional football you aren't going to win. There's a lot of people in this business that don't
