Phillips firmly in Cowboys' mix
Phillips firmly in Cowboys' mix

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones doesn't want to compete with national signing day, so he won't announce about his next head coach until at least Thursday. When he does make a decision, don't be surprised if it's Wade Phillips. The closer Jones gets to a decision, the more it seems as though he's leaning toward Phillips.
For more than a week, Jones has juggled two main choices -- Phillips and 49ers offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Turner seemed the most likely to get the job. But the more Jones studies the situations, the more it appears he's leaning toward Phillips, whose expertise is a 3-4 defense and who is happy with letting Jason Garrett be the offensive play-caller.
