IRVING – Cornerback Terence Newman told reporters last week that he was tired of talking about the partially torn plantar fascia in his right foot.

Newman, who was inactive the first two games, didn't discuss the injury this week. He did not enter the locker room during Friday's media access period, when several television cameramen set up in front of his locker. Newman waited until Friday to answer questions about his foot the previous two weeks.

Newman said last week that he expected to be a gametime decision for the foreseeable future. He is listed as questionable on the official injury report.

Coach Wade Phillips has said that Newman participated much more in practice the last few days than last week. Phillips mentioned that Newman might play in only the nickel and dime packages Sunday night against the Bears.

Phillips ruled out Newman returning punts in Chicago.

"If he plays this week, I'd like to get him in the game and start playing just his regular position," Phillips said. "Then we'll work from there."

DeSoto's Patrick Crayton will return punts despite suffering an open dislocation of his right pinky finger in last week's win over the Dolphins. Crayton had a career-long 49-yard return after hurting the finger, which required five stitches.

T.O., Witten appealing fines: WR Terrell Owens and TE Jason Witten will appeal fines handed down by the NFL this week.

Owens was fined $7,500 for using the ball as a prop during his touchdown celebration that mocked the New England Patriots' video camera controversy. Witten was fined $5,000 for a crack-back block.

"We put the appeal in, but I don't know how far it's going to get," Owens said during his radio show on 790 The Ticket in Miami. "It's tough."

Tank will reunite with rookie: Rookie WR Isaiah Stanback looks forward to former college teammate Tank Johnson joining the Cowboys. Stanback and Johnson, the suspended defensive tackle signed by Dallas this week, spent two years together at Washington.

"He was the one who looked out for me when I got to school," Stanback said. "He's going to fit in real well here. When Fergie [Jason Ferguson] went down, he was the first person I thought of."

Wilson gave inside info on Bears: Phillips said quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson, who held the same position the previous three seasons with Chicago, discussed the Bears' schemes and personnel with the Cowboys coaching staff during the off-season.

Wilson is serving a five-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. He is not allowed to have contact with Dallas coaches or players while serving the suspension.

Injury report: FB Oliver Hoyte said he would be a gametime decision after aggravating a pinched nerve originally suffered during the preseason. Hoyte is listed as probable on the official injury report. ... Chicago LB Brian Urlacher (back) did not practice Friday. He is listed as probable.
