Romo and pals looked comfy at the glass cactus

A liberal dose

Party on, dude.

That's all I could think about last week while I watched Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, wide receiver Sam Hurd and Timm Matthews sitting 1,2, 3 on a red sofa atop the stage of the Gaylord Texan's Glass Cactus nightclub. Jeans, ball cap, T-shirts with some kind of writing on them -- the trio looked more like some overgrown teenagers hanging out in a basement than high-powered radio stars.

The Glass Cactus invitation-only party attended by a handful of locals, some Dallas Cowboys and assorted Cowboys hangers-on was to kick off the threesome's radio show, 'Inside the Huddle.' Beginning Sept. 11, the program will be broadcast live Tuesday evenings on KLLI/'LIVE 105.3' FM at Texas Station, the sports bar inside The Gaylord Texan.

Those invitees nibbled on gourmet fare such as lobster risotto, ahi tuna, kobe burgers and dessert 'shooters.' Among those who made the guest list were former Cowboy Preston Pearson and current players Anthony Fasano, Miles Austin and Terrell Owens. Now even though most of the players were dressed mighty casually, T.O. was sporting some blinding diamonds I would like to borrow sometime, should they become a burden to him.

Despite the casual attire of the players, their wives and girlfriends were decked out -- dresses, heels, jewelry -- for the nightclub the Glass Cactus is. And while some guests watched whatever football game was being shown on two TVs above a bar, some were trying their hands at casino games, which took over the club's dance floor.

At some point in the evening, the broadcast trio took the stage for a while to talk some ball. They very diplomatically compared their former coach, Bill Parcells, with their new coach, Wade Phillips. And the quarterback said the team would 'work as hard as you can and do things the right way.' Sam Hurd had his own big ideas, too. The Cowboys, he expects, will win the Super Bowl.

Ready to take bets on that?

Make this invitation list. The Click workshops are 'invitation only,' too, and I'm inviting you now. Please come at 1 p.m. Monday to the Edwards Cancer Center at Harris Methodist H.E.B. Hospital to learn the latest about the Click page. The photo page which appears Tuesdays and Fridays in the metro section of the Star-Telegram will go through a transformation beginning Oct. 1, and my newspaper friends and I want to tell you about it.

The previously announced 10 a.m. session now has been filled, but we still want to see other publicity officers for clubs, nonprofit organization and fundraising organizers at 1 p.m. for an identical afternoon session. All you need to do is call me at 817-685-3842 or e-mail jdonovan@star-telegram.com to tell us you're coming. We won't have lobster risotto but I'll promise you a nice glass of tea.
