Peter King: Cowboys should thrive even against NFL's best team

Against the grain
Cowboys should thrive even against NFL's best team

Three nuggets from Dallas coach Wade Phillips lead my fantasy tips this week, and the moral of the story is: Don't shy away from Cowboys this weekend because they're playing the best team in football.

1. Kicker Nick Folk. Seven of seven from beyond the 30, and he'll have chances this week with the Cowboys sure to stall some in Patriots territory. "And as T.O. said after the [Buffalo] game, 'that was the longest game-winner in NFL history -- 106 yards."

But did you see the end of Dallas' 25-24 win in Buffalo? Not only did the rookie from Arizona kick one 53-yarder straight down the middle. He then kicked a second one just as straight and just as perfectly down the middle. "Nothing bothers him,'' Phillips said, "and he never misses anything. Hasn't missed in camp, in the pre-season, or in the regular season.'' Well, he's missed one field goal try as a pro -- he had one blocked in Chicago. Play him this week, and every week.

2. Quarterback Tony Romo. You might shy away from him this week, because of his Monday night clunker and the fact that he's facing The Mastermind for the first time. I wouldn't. "I can't remember the last time he threw an interception in practice,'' Phillips told me. I wondered if Phillips ever thought of putting Brad Johnson, Romo's backup, in the game Monday night. Sort of like a hockey goalie getting pulled for allowing four goals in the first 22 minutes. "Never entered my mind,'' Phillips said. Which tells me Jason Garrett, the Dallas offensive coordinator, is hardly going to put Romo in a shell and try to win in spite of him. Romo will be chuckin' it. Don't sit him.

3. New England wideout Randy Moss, and friends. Not sure if Phillips is going to allow Moss to beat him. The times I've watched Phillips over the years, he's often of a mind to try to take the star out of the game and let the other guys try to beat him. I think he'll double Moss a lot and be physical with him -- and that physical stuff goes double with Terrell Owens on the other side, by the way. But Phillips knows however he plays Moss probably won't keep Tom Brady from having a good day. "He's the MVP quarterback who plays like an MVP every play,'' Phillips said. I know it'd be a gutsy move, but if your fantasy team has a good stable of wideouts facing porous secondaries, you should think (think, I say) of sitting Moss.
