DMN Blog: No goals met
While Wade Phillips was effusive in his praise of the team this afternoon, he did pull the reins in a little bit. Yes, they're 8-1. Yes, the NFC East is theirs for the taking. But ...
"We haven’t accomplished anything yet," Phillips said. "But we have won eight games, which is important. They only won nine games last year. It hasn’t guaranteed anything for us."
All this is pretty fresh in Phillips' mind, and that probably has a little to do with last year. He was with the Chargers, who went 14-2, won home-field advantage through the AFC playoffs and were roundly considered the league's best team. And it didn't get them a single playoff win. So the ultimate goal remains far off, and he pulled out the old coaching cliche to explain how to get there.
"We have goals and we are trying to accomplish those goals," Phillips said. "But the only way you can do it is one game at a time and that’s the way we have to look at it."
