Cowboys Notes
A liberal dose
December 13, 2007
ESPN analyst and former Cowboys receiver Keyshawn Johnson and Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens will never be pen pals or best buds.
It seems as if both have their respective rA©sumA©s memorized, verbatim, to use in a verbal battle.
On ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown, Johnson said Owens should be grateful that former coach Bill Parcells was there to build the present Cowboys.
'I'm probably the main reason he's in the booth right now. It's uncharacteristic of him, but it doesn't surprise me,' Owens said Wednesday morning. 'For me, if he's going to be a hater and throw me under the bus, [it's] because he and Bill are real good friends. Nobody would even know he won the Super Bowl [with Tampa Bay in the 2002 season] unless you checked the roster.'
Owens expanded on his response to Johnson's comments.
'Here's a guy, writes the book, Give Me the Damn Ball, and he has 106 catches and one touchdown [in 2001], and that was off a tipped pass,' Owens said. 'I'll never do that in my career. He can hate all he wants to.
'It's not a matter of me giving or not giving Bill credit. Everybody wants to make a big deal, that this is the team he built. It doesn't matter. If you have a house, and you design it one way and you come in, and bring a new designer in, it's a whole new look, it's a refreshing look. My thing is give credit to Wade [Phillips].'
Owens also challenged Johnson.
'I challenge him to come out of retirement and try to take my position. ESPN producer, let him go,' Owens said.
Johnson fired back Wednesday evening.
'My rA©sumA© speaks for itself. I decided not to play football anymore, not because of Terrell Owens, but because I didn't want to chase another Super Bowl ring,' Johnson said. 'I already have one.
'It's OK if Wade Phillips wins with Bill's team. Maybe I should have said it in elementary terms. He would have understood.'
Glenn returns to practice
Wide receiver Terry Glenn returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since undergoing the second of two arthroscopic surgeries on his right knee Sept. 13.
Glenn caught passes and did some individual drills with his teammates. According to Wade Phillips, it's unlikely Glenn will get on the field before the Dec. 22 game against Carolina.
Briefly
Cornerback Terence Newman missed practiced after suffering a sprained right big toe against Detroit.
Defensive tackle Remi Ayodele, who was released Tuesday, cleared waivers and is expected to join the practice squad.
Receiver Patrick Crayton practiced after suffering a foot sprain against Detroit.
