DMN Blog: Jerry on keeping Garrett
The Cowboys offense is ranked second in the league overall, third throwing it and eighth running it, and that has more than a little bit to do with Jason Garrett.
It was hard not to imagine, last night watching the Bengals-Steelers game, what he could do in Cincinnati. Difficult, too, to keep from envisioning what he'd be capable of in San Diego, where the Chargers have stumbled to a 7-5 start.
And there might be openings in those two places, and other locales where Garrett would be a hot name. Garrett's 41, and could bring a dynamic presence to another club. Jerry Jones knows all this ... And takes it as a compliment.
"For him to have that kind of recognition means we’ve done well," Jones said. "And that’s about all that I can say about it. I obviously think a lot of Jason Garrett. I’ve been really rewarded by, not just his work ethic, but just how well he’s taken to the play-calling and being the coordinator.
"I think I’ve said this to y’all before, one of the best things about Jason Garrett is that when he leaves the room, everyone in the room, it was their idea. He’s got some real positives when it comes to his people skills that are really showing up here too. All of that means that if he’s really getting a lot of rave reviews, it means we’re doing well, and have done well."
With that said, Jones didn't want to forecast what it might take to keep a star on Garrett's hat in 2008.
"I don’t know want to get into that, that would be speculative, by the very nature of it," Jones said. "But I went a long way out of the way to get him."
