Newman Adjusts His Kitna Stance

Terence Newman heard the NFL loud-and-clear when they told him they'd be paying special attention to him on Sunday in the wake of his remarks about wanting revenge on Jon Kitna. Now Newman is backpedaling faster on his smack-talk than he does when he's in coverage. Newman said after practice yesterday:

[Kitna] didn't say anything bad to me. I was trying to make a joke about it. I don't even blitz. I blitz like four times a year. Besides, he's bigger than me.
Newman said he was going to come off the corner and blow Kitna up, and he didn't care if the league fined him cause he has lots of money to pay a fine. So the league sent him a letter telling him to cool his jets. And this is how he responds? By folding like a cheap suitcase? This is that vaunted Dallas Cowboy brashness and arrogance?

I think having jolly Wade Phillips as a coach has made these guys soft. If Newman had any real guts he would've come out after the NFL's letter and promised to hit Kitna twice as hard as he was going to before, then hit his back-up J.T. O'Sullivan, then go find Eric Hipple and hit his old ass too just for giggles. But no - Newman got his little warning from the league office and immediately turned to jelly, trying to dismiss the whole thing as a joke. I'm telling you, if Ed "Too Tall" Jones were dead, he'd be spinning in his grave right now.
