DMN Blog: Receivers keep on shuffling
by Albert Breer
NFL.com's Pat Kirwan has his latest mock draft up, and at one position of Cowboy need, receiver, he's driving another player up the board.
That Michigan State's Devin Thomas is the first one taken, at 11 to Buffalo, is hardly a surprise. That Indiana's James Hardy comes next is. Kirwan's got Hardy -- who will visit Valley Ranch this week -- going 20th to Tampa.
Up third is DeSean Jackson to the Cowboys at 22nd. On the high end, Jackson could be another Santana Moss. As far as what he brings to the table coming in, he's not unlike Ted Ginn Jr. Here's how Kirwan's got Round 1 shaping up for Dallas ...
22) Dallas Cowboys -- Cal WR DeSean Jackson: The potential trade for CB Pacman Jones will eventually happen but no one knows if and when he will be available. There are corners with good grades on the board at this point but the Cowboys are in the market for a wide receiver and running back. Jackson has skills similar to Terry Glenn and can stretch the field opposite Terrell Owens. He's only 169 pounds, though, and some teams will not take the risk with him. Look for Dallas to use the 30 minutes between this pick and their next pick (No. 28) to lock up Pacman so it can take a running back.
28) Dallas Cowboys -- Arkansas RB Felix Jones: Jones could have been the pick at no. 22 and he may very well be, but getting a complementary running back to Marion Barber isn't as pressing as getting a wide receiver and corner. There is depth in the running back class so they should prefer to wait. Jones is a flashy back who will complement Barber and he has little wear and tear on his body as a backup to Darren McFadden.
I don't think Pacman's status will affect the Cowboys' draft approach. We'll discuss that in a little bit, with some of Stephen Jones' thoughts, expanded from what was in today's paper.
