DMN Blog: Ware says Cowboys are off to flying start
by Albert Breer
Pro Bowl OLB DeMarcus Ware, here for Cowboys night at the Desperados-Gladiators game at the AAC, just checked in and reports back that the team's offseason program, at least through its first week, is off to a strong start. The sentiment was obvious when he was asked to compare this year's attendance to years past.
"It's better," Ware said. "Some guys have their own deal where they go and work out on their own, and I understand that. But all the guys that should be here are here, we're not missing any days."
The way the pass-rushing terror sees it, the bricks for September, October, November and December, and, they hope, January and February, are being laid now.
"(The offseason program) builds chemistry for next season," Ware said. "Everybody's out there working hard, putting in the blood, the sweat and tears, and I love seeing that. We're putting forth the effort that we need for next year.
"It's been really good, everybody's back, getting ready for next season. A lot of the guys are working even harder to try and eliminate those mistakes that we had towards the end of last season. We're just getting ready, it's going to be a short couple months until training camp."
There is, too, the little matter of his contract. Make no mistake about this -- Ware is the rare defensive player who will be able to command quarterback money. Check out Dwight Freeney's deal, and you've got a starting point for negotiations. But with two years left on his rookie contract, Ware isn't too caught up in breaking the bank. At least not yet.
"Nah, not at all," Ware said. "Whatever happens happens."
