DMN Blog: Cowboys worked hard to get Hamlin's deal done

by Tim MacMahon

The Cowboys hoped that Ken Hamlin would join Marion Barber and Terence Newman in agreeing to long-term deals yesterday.

Jerry Jones said the Cowboys and Kennard McGuire, Hamlin's agent, had serious discussions over the last three or four days but couldn't reach an agreement. The Cowboys put the franchise tag on Hamlin, but he wants a multi-year contract after proving himself with a Pro Bowl campaign after signing a one-year deal last summer.

Hamlin wants to be a Cowboy for a long time. The Cowboys want Hamlin here for a long time.

All they have to do now is agree on the numbers, which they weren't able to do after hours of negotiating over the last few days.
