Mike Jenkins Profile

Rookie first-rounder Mike Jenkins is trying to fit in with Dallas, according to the AP. Jenkins said, "I’m just trying to get in and help the team the best I can. I’m trying to learn the playbook. If it’s meant for me to get on the field early, I can do that. But right now I’m just trying to get in there and learn behind the guys that they have here. Defensive backs coach Dave Campo said, "We’re going to throw him right in there and start right away coaching him. Where he finishes, time will tell. I think he’s capable of playing either corner. He just has got to fine tune a lot of stuff and we’ll just see what happens."

Our View:Owner Jerry Jones commented after the draft that Jenkins is expected to contribute right away. The Cowboys traded for suspended cornerback Pacman Jones, but its uncertain whether NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will reinstate him this season. Jenkins allowed few big plays at South Florida, and has a knack for hauling in tough interceptions. He is also developing his skills in run support, and should become an asset in that area as well. He has a chance to make a favorable fantasy impact as a rookie.
