Suspended Cowboys cornerback Pacman Jones was back in the news on Friday, but not for football purposes.
Jones, who remains indefinitely suspended by the NFL, reportedly paid off a $20,000 gambling debt to a Las Vegas casino. The Las Vegas Sun reported Friday the Clark County district attorney’s office requested felony theft and fraud charges to be filed for Jones’ failure to pay back three markers he received last September, which is comparable to a bounced check in the state of Nevada.
Jones’ agent, Manny Arora, told reporters the debt was settled Friday to help close the case and avoid charges.
Jones becomes the second high-profile athlete tied to gambling debts in the news this week. Former NBA great and current TNT analyst Charles Barkley paid $400,000 in debts to a Vegas casino.
The 24-year-old Cowboys corner has passed his physical, but is still not permitted to train at the Cowboys’ Valley Ranch facility. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said he will review Jones’ suspension closer to the start of training camp.
