MySa Blog: Wade defends Barber captain pick
Some in the media were surprised yesterday that low-key (at least in the locker room when around reporters) Marion Barber was voted an offensive captain.
But Wade Phillips said he wasn't surprised at all by the choice.
"No, not really," coach Wade said. "I think he's such a leader by example. You've watched him run in practice. Every back is supposed to run so far. But he runs so far, faster than everybody. You look out there every day after practice he's doing something. He's catching the ball.. He's such a leader by example. It didn't surprise me he's a captain."
The other offensive captains are Tony Romo, Jason Witten and Terrell Owens, who made himself an honorary captain last season. The choice of Owens shows just how far he's come in his three years with Dallas. Once regarded as a flake and a trouble-maker, he's now among the most respected players. Two other former trouble makers - Pacman Jones and Tank Johnson - are making the same transition.
