Jan. 20--MOBILE, Ala. -- Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips could be on the hunt for a new defensive coordinator at the Senior Bowl this week.
The weeklong workouts also serve as a coaches' job fair, and last year Phillips connected with secondary coach Dave Campo and learned he was interested in coming to Dallas.
Dallas fired defensive coordinator Brian Stewart on Friday after two seasons with Phillips. During the year, Phillips took over Stewart's play-calling duties, and the Cowboys defense improved in the second half of the season and led the NFL in sacks with 59.
Phillips didn't have much to say about his plans for the vacant position.
"We just got here," Phillips said. "I don't have anything to say right now."
Phillips could also look to promote from within with two former defensive coordinators on staff in defensive line coach Todd Grantham and Campo.
Harrell, Bomar team up
The North team at the Senior Bowl has a pair of well-known quarterbacks from Texas. Texas Tech's Graham Harrell and Sam Houston State's Rhett Bomar, a Grand Prairie product, had their first practice Monday afternoon.
Harrell and Bomar could be Cowboys draft possibilities in the middle rounds. Harrell is out to break the thought he is system quarterback.
"I think coming from the Texas Tech offense one of the biggest strengths that comes with that is just the knowledge of the game," Graham said. "I think I can prove some knowledge of the game here and try to break some of the stereotypes."
Texas receiver Quan Cosby is on the South team.
Cowboys staff on hand
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, son Stephen Jones and the team's entire coaching staff and scouting department arrived at the Senior Bowl workouts Monday.
Last season the Cowboys took an up-close look at former Georgia Tech running back Tashard Choice. Outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware and kicker Nick Folk also played in the Senior Bowl.
Dallas scouting director Tom Ciskowski will try to build some more draft momentum after last year's excellent cast.
The Cowboys' first pick in the draft is No. 51 in the second round.
Parcells sighting
Jerry Jones might have a dinner guest this week in Mobile.
Miami Dolphins executive vice president of Football operations Bill Parcells is in town to evaluate and interview players.
Parcells was alongside Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland, who was formerly the Cowboys director of scouting.
