DMN Blog: Play of the Day: Patrick Crayton gets up
By Tim MacMahon/Blogger
Patrick Crayton's reputation is that he's a solid possession receiver who doesn't concern defenses as a downfield threat.
"I'm trying to get out of that box," Crayton said. "Nobody wants to be put in a box. You want to be multifaceted."
Crayton doesn't have blazing speed by NFL receiver standards, but there are other ways to make big plays than running past defensive backs. Case in point: His leaping catch over Terence Newman on a pump-and-go this afternoon.
Newman didn't bite on Crayton's move and had good coverage. Tony Romo intentionally threw the ball behind Crayton to give him a chance to make the adjustment. Crayton stopped, soared and snatched the ball at his highest point, while Newman never got off the ground.
"You've got to want it," Crayton said. "You've got to treat the ball like it's yours every time it's in the air."
