Dallas Cowboys: Witten voids four years of contract
Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has voided the final four years of his contract and will become a restricted free agent at the end of this season. "I hope [to stay with the Cowboys]," he told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "At the same time, I do realize this is a business. I am getting to the point now where I might see some of it."
The Cowboys have the option to keep him next year by guaranteeing him a first-round "tender" plus $10; basically, he's going to go from making $380,000 this season to a one-year deal worth more than $1.43 million next season.
Linebacker Bradie James is in the same boat and has voided the remainder of his deal. The Cowboys do not want to give either an extension until the NFL has reached a new collective bargaining agreement."I hope [to stay with the Cowboys]," said Witten, who was selected in the third round of the 2003 draft. "At the same time, I do realize this is a business. I am getting to the point now where I might see some of it."
