New Orlean Saints and the Dallas Cowboys MAY play in the Pro Football Hall of Fame preseason game in Canton, Ohio

TIDBIT: DETROIT - While there would seem to be a chance of the Dallas Cowboys being invited to play in the Pro Football Hall of Fame preseason game in Canton, Ohio, now that two of their former players will be inducted that weekend, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the club has already been working on preseason plans to benefit the state of Louisiana.
Jones, here for Super Bowl XL and Saturday's announcement of Troy Aikman and Rayfield Wright getting selected for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, said the NFL wants the Cowboys to play a preseason game against the New Orleans Saints to further benefit the Hurricane Katrina Relief fund and help create more visibility for the Saints, who are scheduled for a fulltime return to New Orleans in 2006.
"We are making adjustments in our schedule so we could do some things early in the preseason in Louisiana," Jones said. "We will do all we can do early with the Saints to get the Saints kicked off right."
Jones said the clubs were not yet prepared yet to make any official announcement, but it appears the Cowboys will play one of their four preseason games against the Saints, now coached by Sean Payton, the Cowboys former assistant head coach and passing game coordinator. The Cowboys also are scheduled to meet the Saints in Dallas during the regular season.
But these plans will not affect the Cowboys' training camp plans to return to Oxnard, Calif., for a full session. And Jonew was unsure if a game against the Saints, probably in the state of Louisiana, would cause the team to make a long flight for a preseason game from the West Coast or if the game will be played once the team returns from Oxnard, as it did last year to play the final two preseason games at home.
Jones also said he thought the NFL had a rotation system for the Hall of Fame preseason game, and wasn't sure if the league made a concession for a club having a couple of players being inducted. Teams playing in the league's kickoff preseason game end up playing five preseason games.
"We just want to show the kind of understanding we have for what's going on in Louisiana," Jones said.
