(Editor's Note: Cowboys quarterback Drew Henson is spending the off-season playing for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe. Henson will be writing a season-long diary for NFLEurope.com and DallasCowboys.com, keeping fans up to date with what happens on and off the field in Europe. Currently, Henson is finishing up training camp in Tampa, Fla., and getting ready to head to Germany for the March 18 start to the season.
TAMPA, Fla. - This is our third week here and physically we're all a little tired. As quarterbacks, we have been throwing routes to these guys for the past week, and each day we're starting to feel more comfortable. All receivers run routes a little differently, but we've started to develop chemistry with each one.
Fundamentally we're always working on things. I feel better throwing now more than I ever have. I know some of that is because my past season just finished, so my lay-off wasn't long enough for me to get rusty. I got right back into camp here.
Thinking back to when I did first get into camp I thought about how the team would gel, because with NFL Europe no one knows a single person when you get here. You may know one or two guys from past experiences, but for the most part everybody's new. You don't know their style and you don't know anybody's name. You try to get it as quickly as possible, but it's not something that happens over night.
With this being our third week guys know each other pretty well now. We begin to develop that camaraderie. These last few days of practice there has been more enthusiasm. Guys know each other and we're starting to get a real feel for each other. When you see things progressing, it's amazing and exciting.
To get on the field again and take on that role of the quarterback is something I'm happy to be a part of. I have to take advantage of it. We have to try to lead this thing to where we want it to go. I'm pleased with my progress and the team's. We're almost beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's just a couple of days left and we'll get a chance to get out of here. When we get to Germany it's going to be new to everybody, but it will be exciting. I think that the atmosphere is pretty good right now.
We have until Saturday afternoon to do the football stuff, and then after we get that scrimmage out the way it's that sort of mad dash to get our stuff packed and organized.
I've been thinking about a couple of things that I might need going over to Germany. I'm going to pick up some toiletries like toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant. I know I'll be able to get that in Germany, but I also want to get as much as I can now. I'll also pick up some adapters for my computer and phone cards. I've been talking to the guys that are from France and Germany and they've been telling me things that I might need that are slightly different.
I'm going to try to speak to a couple of friends of mine before I leave, but really this has been football all the time. That's what we're here for. If I get a minute Sunday or Monday I might try to speak then, but other than that I'll be back to Tampa some other time.
