NFC East: Giants reach agreement with CB Madison

Report: Giants reach agreement with CB Madison

March 10, 2006
BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT (TICKER) -- It appears that Ernie Accorsi has landed another Drew Rosenhaus client.

ESPN.com is reporting that the New York Giants have reached agreement with four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Sam Madison on a four-year contract worth $7.4 million.

Madison, 31, spent his first nine seasons with the Miami Dolphins, but was waived for salary cap purposes on March 1. He recorded 56 tackles and two interceptions in 15 games last season.

Last spring, Rosenhaus negotiated deals that brought linebacker Antonio Pierce and wide receiver Plaxico Burress to the Giants. Desperate for a starting cornerback, the Giants turned to Rosenhaus again for Madison, who made the Pro Bowl four straight seasons from 1999-2002.

The reported addition of Madison likely spells the end for cornerback Will Allen in New York. A first-round pick in 2001, Allen is an unrestricted free agent.

William Peterson, the Giants' other starting cornerback, missed all but two games in 2005 due to a back injury.

The Giants hope that cornerback Corey Webster, a second-round pick in 2005, can move in as a starter if Peterson continues to be plagued by back problems.
