Owens Officially Gone; Cowboys Making Room?

It was a simple, one sentence statement. "The Philadelphia Eagles today announced they have terminated the contract of WR Terrell Owens." Straight and to the point.
Meanwhile, literally within a half-hour of the Eagles statement came news from Dallas that Keyshawn Johnson was also out of work. The move saves the Dallas Cowboys $1 million and could be a precursor to Owens calling Dallas home.

One of the concerns in Dallas was how Owens and Johnson would have performed together on the same team and how they would have shared the same locker room. Now, with Johnson gone, those concerns are gone as well. Plus, the Cowboys have a little more money to put toward a deal for Owens.

The Eagles were reportedly never truly close to a deal that would have sent Owens anywhere, although there were rumors that Kansas City had considered offering a fifth round pick for him. That offer never officially made it to Philadelphia.

By cutting Owens, the Eagles save $7.5 million in roster bonuses that Owens would have been due this month, with the first coming tomorrow (March 15) when he would have been owed an additional $5 million.
