Cowboys tight end Dan Campbell will likely hit the free agent market, and it’s doubtful he will return. Campbell’s agent, Leonard Roth, said there is "less than a five percent chance" his client will come back to the Cowboys.
"I am surprised they didn’t make any attempt to sign him," Roth said. "(Cowboys vice president) Stephen Jones made it clear to me they want him. But I think that’s at a certain price. They want him to fall in free agency where he is extremely affordable."
Campbell, 30, played with a sports hernia he suffered in the third game of the season. Used primarily as a blocker, Campbell had three catches for 24 yards and one touchdown last season. His 1-yard touchdown catch with 22 seconds left in the game gave the Cowboys a 31-28 win over Kansas City.
If Campbell leaves, the Cowboys might select a tight end from a draft class that is loaded at that position.
