John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, reports New England Patriots PK Adam Vinatieri apparently is intent on exploring the free-agent market. Sources say the Patriots have offered Vinatieri a multiyear contract worth more than $2 million annually that would keep him the highest-paid kicker in the game, but that he has not accepted it. Even with the start of free agency pushed back for three days until Monday, March 6, a source close to Vinatieri said he wants to let the market determine his value, "like at an auction." In an interview published yesterday with the Orlando Sentinel, Vinatieri seemed to speak of playing for the Patriots in the past tense.
