Cowboys Team Report

Jean-Jacques Taylor
Dallas Morning News

Backup C Al Johnson struggled as a short-yardage tight end against the Jaguars, but the Cowboys prefer to use Johnson (6-5, 311) rather than an undersized tight end as an extra blocker.

The team will move around WR Terrell Owens to create favorable matchups. It really likes him in the slot, where he can get off the line cleanly and has room to run after the catch.

SPOTLIGHT MATCHUP: TE Jason Witten likely will be able to make big plays this week even though he'll be up against Redskins S Sean Taylor. Dallas will put Witten and WR Terry Glenn on the same side of the field at times and force Taylor to cover one of them.

YOUTH MOVEMENT: First-round pick Bobby Carpenter has struggled in his move from 4-3 college outside linebacker to 3-4 pro inside linebacker and was inactive last week. He still is learning how to shed blocks by massive guards.
