If I'm Bill Parcells...

IRVING – If I'm Bill Parcells, I'm worried about the offensive line, particularly center Andre Gurode and guards Kyle Kosier and Marco Rivera.

The Cowboys rushed for minus-1 yard on seven attempts in the first quarter of their 10-10 tie with Minnesota on Thursday night.

Julius Jones had five attempts for minus-5 in the first. Put the blame on the guys up front - not Julius.

If I'm Parcells, I'm wondering what happened to my two shutdown corners early in the second quarter. On back-to-back plays, Anthony Henry and Terence Newman gave up long gains. Parcells bragged in camp about how Newman didn't give up a touchdown last season. Well, that was Newman defending Marcus Robinson when he hauled in a 24-yard pass from Brad Johnson on a deep slant.

If I'm Parcells, I keep six receivers, with Jamaica Rector, Terrance Copper and, yes, Sam Hurd as the final three. Hurd won't clear waivers if he's placed on the practice squad. He's had an up-and-down preseason, but he's got potential. Rector has clearly won a spot. Copper is needed for special teams.

The odd man out? Fourth-round pick Skyler Green. He hasn't shown me much, either as a returner or receiver.

If I'm Parcells, I sit down and talk to Vanderjagt to find out just where the kicker is health-wise. If his groin is still a concern, I treat him like T.O. and let him rehab until he's ready to go. It's ridiculous the Cowboys have to burn a roster spot on a kickoff specialist, but that's what they get for signing a kicker who can't handle the chore.

If I'm Parcells, I spend some time trying to figure out how to get Tyson Thompson and Jason Hatcher on the field more. Hatcher, the rookie defensive end from Grambling, had a team-high six tackles and half a sack against Minnesota. Thompson finished with 56 yards on 10 carries, flashing his great speed all the while.
