The Mosley Afternoon Report starts in 3...2...1

Bill Parcells discussed the work of Flozell Adams, Mike Vanderjagt, Terrell Owens and Joe Gibbs during his news conference today. Here's a summary of everything that went down at Valley Ranch this afternoon:

• Parcells said Adams must "improve his performance" after Sunday's loss in Jacksonville. He's obviously upset that Adams gave up two sacks and picked up two costly penalties.

"No player is worth a lot of penalties," Parcells said.

No one ever talks about it, but Adams has a hearing problem. He's blamed false starts on crowd noise in the past, but I didn't think it was that loud in Jacksonville the other day.

I was told that rookie Pat McQuistan was given extra repetitions at left tackle this morning.

• Asked if Terrell Owens would have an even larger role in the offense Sunday, Parcells said, "I don't think we'll try to do more things with him...Teams aren't going to let him run loose. We have to be able to go to other people."

• Lots of Vanderjagt talk today. Parcells said he can't afford to take two kickers to the game. What does he need to see from Vanderjagt?

"I want to see him consistently make kicks," Parcells said.

When someone asked him if he would consider waiting until after the bye week to use Vanderjagt, Parcells said, "He's been resting pretty much all summer."

But he once again said he wasn't ready to "abandon the hope" that Vanderjagt will be ready to go.

"I'm just hoping he can return to form," Parcells said.

For more on Vanderjagt, check out this guy's column.

• Parcells said he's watched film of last year's Kansas City team because the Chiefs' former offensive coordinator, Al Saunders, has now taken over the offense in Washington. He said Gibbs and Saunders both trace their roots to Don Coryell's Chargers teams.

•Talking to Santana Moss of the Redskins right now ... He's said "You know what I'm saying?" at least 11 times.

Asked about the Cowboys' corners, Moss said Anthony Henry and Terence Newman are "two of the best corners I'll face all year."

This just in: Moss calls Joe Gibbs a "good guy." Not sure why we requested this guy.

Asked about the additions of Antwaan Randle El and Brandon Lloyd at receiver, Moss said, "They help me because you get different looks from defenses. I feel like with those guys, it gives us a core of receivers who have all started at this level."

On his team's intensity level: "You always try to keep them at an urgent level. Every week if you possibly can. We just have to sustain better execution for an extended amount of time.

• Will Bobby Carpenter be active this week? Parcells said he wouldn't decide that until the end of the week. He said a non-starter needs to play on four special teams units. The fact that Carpenter didn't play much on special teams in college isn't helping his cause. Parcells did say that rookie linebacker Oliver Hoyte struggled against Jacksonville.

"That was an awakening for him," Parcells said.

• Of bouncing back from a tough loss, Parcells said, "Everyone else has kinda got the hearses out...I don't think there's any funeral."

• Parcells said Al Johnson's performance as an eligible tackle was "fair" against the Jaguars. He said he wanted Johnson out there over Jason Fabini because he's more of a threat in the passing game.

Asked when Johnson became a pass-catching threat, Parcells said, "With Al, you could visualize that a little more easily...Not much."

• Asked what he saw from cornerbacks Anthony Henry and Terence Newman on Sunday, Parcells said, "Not enough."

• Curious statement of the day: T.O. made the interesting point that playing on Sunday night was "as close as you can get to playing on Monday night."

Hmmm...When Owens was asked to comment on Drew Bledsoe's performance Sunday, he smiled and said, "Any quarterback questions, don't ask me."

• Drew Bledsoe talked to his teammates about overcoming adversity after Monday's conditioning period.

"I said you need to understand that if you're going to play in this league, you have to be able respond positively when something bad happens."
He pointed to his history of responding well to adversity and said his confidence was "very high."
