Two's Company At Quarterback

For the first time since the Aikman Era, the Cowboys indeed kept only two quarterbacks on their roster. Keeping three really hasn’t been a need the last few years because starters Quincy Carter, Vinny Testaverde and Drew Bledsoe stayed healthy.
I’ll admit, it didn’t look right seeing “Quarterbacks (2)” in Nick’s roster breakdown. And you’re always one hit away from needing No. 2 to drop his headset. But the Cowboys have a lot of confidence in Tony Romo. They gave him a nice one-year extension (two-year deal worth $3.9 million and a $2 million signing bonus) because they believe he can lead this team if Bledsoe has to leave the game like he did against the Vikes.
The Cowboys’ patience with Drew Henson apparently had worn thin. And by keeping just two QBs, they could afford to use a spot elsewhere on the roster, like with Shaun Suisham as a possible kickoff guy.
