NFL Rumors & Notes by Ben Maller 11/15/06

How Dallas QB Tony Romo scores will ultimately determine if he's allowed to start again next year, the final year of the two-year extension he signed this season, or if the Cowboys re-enter the quarterback market. Face it, they won't return to Drew Bledsoe in 2007 and there is no one else to turn to that's here. It's Romo or bust. Er, draft.

Safety Marcus Coleman, who was released by the Cowboys on Saturday following his arrest by Irving police on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, expressed regrets about his situation via text messages to the Star-Telegram. He apologized to the Cowboys organization and especially coach Bill Parcells. "I apologize to the organization, my teammates, my family and my friends," Coleman said. "I am very disappointed in this whole situation. I shouldn't have put myself in this situation. I am responsible. And I will move forward to correct this matter so it never happens again. "As of now, I hope to be able to play again soon and redeem myself. I want to be especially apologetic to Coach Parcells because I know I let him down. And he cares not only about my football life, but my life in general."

In the coming weeks, don't be surprised if Cowboys running back Marion Barber gets more carries and Julius Jones gets fewer. Jones has a history of wearing down as the season progresses, and he never has been a full-time starter for an entire season. He always has replaced an injured back, or shared time with another runner. Now some scouts around the league believe that Jones is showing signs of wear and tear and they expect the Cowboys to lean more on Barber in the coming weeks.

Who Knew? The Cowboys play five of last seven at home, but visitors include Colts, Saints and Eagles

By now, it's a safe bet that you've heard rumors of something brewing between Jessica Simpson and Cowboys QB Tony Romo, who in what may be the most second-guessed decision in league history, was dumped by his Florida-based girlfriend two days before becoming the starting quarterback. I'm not sure this Simpson-Romo thing has legs, but I can confirm that he hooked up her father, Joe, with tickets to Sunday's game (in Arizona).
