Full Interview with Mansfield Wrotto
In the months leading up the 2007 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys met extensively with Georgia Tech offensive tackle Mansfield Wrotto, TheRanchReport.com has learned.
Wrotto also had formal interviews with the the Browns, Bears and Jets.
Wrotto, a defensive tackle during his first three years with the Yellow Jackets, moved over to the offensive side of the ball during his senior year and is expected to play as a guard in the National Football League.
"It was an easy transition," said Wrotto of the move. "In the spring practices of my junior season, I played guard the entire spring. I had to move back to defensive line because we had some injuries that season. But when I went back before my senior season, it was a very easy transition even though I had to play tackle instead of guard. The concept was still the same.
"I was very pleased that I had the ability to go back to my old technique and position I did in high school."
Wrotto also said that playing on the defensive line naturally helps him anticipate moves of defenders he faces at the line of scrimmage.
"I can anticipate some moves, some swim move techniques, certain times when D-Linemen are twisting, what they do to get you off--they end up trying to grab you and pull you forward," he said. "That is something I have learned through playing D-Line the last three years and it’s something that’s helped me a lot."
The Cowboys are believed to once again be looking to increase their depth on the offensive and defensive lines, including guard and defensive tackle.
Scout.com currently ranks Wrotto as the No. 7 offensive guard available in the 2007 draft.
Mansfield Wrotto Scouting Report
Bio: Former defensive lineman who started every game at right tackle as a senior.
Pos: Stout, wide-bodied blocker who shows a lot of potential on the offensive line. Quick off the snap, fights with his hands and is strong at the point. Turns defenders off the ball, keeps his feet moving and stays with blocks. Makes terrific use of blocking angles and is patient in pass protection.
Neg: Not light on his feet, struggles sliding out to protect the edge and displays minimal skills blocking in motion. Stands to improve his overall body strength.
Final: Displaying consistent improvement as the year went on, Wrotto is a developmental project with good upside. Played tackle in college, but better off in confined quarters at guard.
