Cowboy Team Report

DRAFT DISH: The Cowboys' biggest need was at outside linebacker -- and they filled it with Anthony Spencer, who will make the switch from defensive end. Coach Wade Phillips' 3-4 scheme needs a pair of pass rushers to succeed, and Spencer and OLB DeMarcus Ware each are capable of producing double-digit sacks. With no other pressing needs, the team used the rest of the picks to add depth at positions that might be future concerns. OTs James Marten and Doug Free can learn the nuances of the game as backups this year before they're pressed into duty in 2008. They also provide insurance in case LT Flozell Adams bolts as a free agent next year. Isaiah Stanback, a quarterback in college, will move to receiver, where the Cowboys will try to take advantage of his speed. One of the team's biggest moves was getting the Browns' 2008 first-round pick -- which the Cowboys expect to be in the top 10.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Don't look for the Cowboys to make many moves the rest of the offseason because they like the team they've put together. They wouldn't mind adding a veteran nose tackle to play behind Jason Ferguson, but they love Jay Ratliff and are fine with him as the backup even though he might be better suited to play end. Barring an injury, they won't add a wide receiver because the depth is solid. Overall, the young players just need to keep making progress.
