DMN Blog: Can Glenn be good without Parcells?
It's easy to forget Terry Glenn's history of causing trouble for his coaches. He's a bit overshadowed in that regard by another receiver on the Cowboys' roster. And Glenn hasn't caused any significant problems since arriving in Dallas four years ago.
How much did Bill Parcells have to do with Glenn's good behavior the last four seasons? We'll find out soon enough.
It's clear that the Tuna, who famously referred to Glenn as "she" during his rookie training camp with the Patriots, was able to get the most out of Glenn. Glenn has had four 1,000-yard seasons -- three in his five seasons under Parcells and one in his other six seasons.
Glenn's two previous NFL teams got rid of him for much less than market value. Bill Belichick basically booted him out of New England, suspending him for all but four games of the Patriots' first title season and trading him to Green Bay for a pair of fourth-round picks. The Packers gave Glenn to the Cowboys for a sixth-rounder after one season.
It's way too early to say Glenn will cause trouble for Wade Phillips, who went out of his way to rave about Glenn during the Cowboys' first minicamp. But Glenn's refusal to come to Valley Ranch for voluntary workouts certainly isn't a good first step.
