DMN Blog: Friday (June 1) OTA Highlights
*Keith Davis, manning the starting strong safety spot, made several nice plays. He had an interception off of rookie free agent QB Richard Bartel that would have been returned for a TD.
*Bartel, a Grapevine native, had a rough day. He threw a particularly bad pick right to Terence Newman.
*All the starting O-line was present and accounted for, but Flozell Adams still isn't working out. He appeared to have a slight limp. Pat McQuistan filled in for Flo at LT again.
*Linebacker-turned-fullback Oliver Hoyte was back with the linebackers. Not sure if that's just an experimental deal or permanent.
*DE Chris Canty appeared very active, although I must include the disclaimer that this was a no-pads workout. Canty, who played in the Tuna's scheme under Parcells protege Al Groh in college, said it's a major adjustment for him to try to be a disruptive force. His early work under Wade Phillips is encouraging.
*Undrafted free agent Dedrick Harrington was getting as many reps as Bobby Carpenter at inside linebacker. Don't want to overreact, but that can't be a good thing for last year's first-round pick.
*Gotta love Tony Romo's spunk. He got out in front of one running play and tangled with DE Jay Ratliff. Romo ended up on the ground, quickly bounced to his feet and pumped his fist.
*Terence Newman showed his freak athleticism by turning a couple of back flips in the middle of practice, just for the heck of it, I reckon.
*Funniest moment of the day happened when Brad Johnson was stunned by a football crashing into his facemask. Johnson fell flat on his back, leading to a bunch of guffawing by the QBs. Pretty sure third-stringer Matt Baker threw the ball, which might be an indication that he's willing to do anything to become the backup.
