DMN Blog: Juiciest storylines on the schedule
Comment superstar Saint Jimmy's incessant whining motivated me to think about the juiciest storylines on the schedule.
This is not a hardcore football schedule preview. You'll have to wait until at least August for that. It's about the stuff that I can't wait to sensationalize.
The top five Cowboys games with the most sensationalizing potential:
Cowboys at Bills, Oct. 8: Wade Phillips' return to Buffalo was juicy enough to be scheduled for Monday night. Those bitter Bills fans still haven't forgiven Phillips for benching cereal salesman Doug Flutie for Rob Johnson. The "Music City Miracle" might get mentioned once or twice during the lead-up to this game, too.
Cowboys at Eagles, Nov. 4: Yep, T.O. returning to Philly is still a major story, especially since he didn't do squat in his trip to the City of Brotherly Love last season. Anthony Spencer could become a big story this week, too, if he's putting quarterbacks on their back. Iggles fans (and Donovan McNabb) weren't too pleased that Philly swapped picks to let the Cowboys get the pass-rusher they wanted.
Patriots at Cowboys, Oct. 14: Randy Moss returns to Texas Stadium, the site of perhaps the most spectacular performance of his career. Poor Greg Ellis has to hear about the Cowboys taking him instead of Moss all over again. (In hindsight, was that really a bad decision?) The matchup of gossip-fodder QBs will be fun, too.
Cowboys at Detroit, Dec. 9: The loss to the lowly Lions in the regular-season finale was probably the low point in the soon-to-end Bill Parcells era. You'd think the Cowboys' D would be pretty fired up for the rematch. That's especially true for Bradie James, who became the butt of journeyman QB Jon Kitna's jokes. Maybe T.O. can come up with a TD celebration to pay Detroit back for Mike Furrey's star-bustin' antics.
Rams at Cowboys, Sept. 30: Would you rather have Stephen Jackson than Julius Jones and Marcus Spears? Yeah, I would, too.
