Cowboys Notes
A liberal dose
July 17, 2007
Linebacker Greg Ellis, who is coming off a torn Achilles injury suffered last season, has yet to be cleared to play by team doctors.
'Once he gets back from vacation, we'll see,' said Ellis' agent, James D. Williams. 'If the doctors clear him and he doesn't have any pain, he'll be where he's supposed to be [in training camp]. He's under contract.'
Williams did not know when Ellis could be cleared.
And as far as the playing time/contract issues Ellis has with the team, Williams would not comment.
A Cowboys source confirmed the two sides have discussed Ellis' situation, but nothing has been resolved. And there might not be a resolution, either.
Ellis was disappointed the Cowboys drafted linebacker Anthony Spencer in the first round, and said in June he would not play unless his injury is 100 percent healed. He also said he would like to be traded, or released if his contract was not redone.
The Cowboys are scheduled to have their first training camp practice July 25 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Ayodele ready
Linebacker Akin Ayodele said he has been cleared by doctors and will participate in training camp next week.
He underwent minor knee surgery two months ago and missed some minicamp practices while recovering.
Negotiations beginning
The Cowboys have begun preliminary discussions with some of their lower 2007 draft picks. All picks are expected to sign contracts and participate in training camp next week.
Cowboys help out
The Cowboys and The Salvation Army played host to the third annual NFL Junior Player Development Program on Monday night in Dallas. Akin Ayodele was on hand to speak to and assist in some of the practices with the 120 kids, ages 11 to 14; 12 of the participants were girls.
The program, which is run in all 50 states, runs through July 28.
