Cowboys' Owens has MRI

By Sports Network

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens had an MRI on Monday to examine his stiff lower back.
Owens missed practice for a second straight day with lower back spasms and the team sent him for a precautionary MRI, which came back negative.

Earlier in the day Dallas head coach Wade Phillips was certain that there was no reason for alarm.

"He wants to play," said Phillips during his press conference after morning practice on Monday. "I thought he'd be a little better today...but it wasn't better. It was a precaution."

Owens also missed practice on Sunday with the back injury. He missed three practices early last week to rest his legs. His status for Thursday's preseason opener against Indianapolis is uncertain.

In his first season with the Cowboys a year ago, Owens had 85 catches for 1,180 yards and 13 touchdowns.
