DMN Blog: Time to call Tank? No
Todd Archer took two questions during today's chat about ex-Bears DT Tank Johnson, who some fans see as a potential plug for the hole created by Jason Ferguson's season-ending injury.
Joe: T.O. destroyed a team's season before they picked him up. Do you really think Tank Johnson's off-the-field antics would be the reason the Cowboys passed on him?
Todd Archer: One of the reasons, sure. And he's not a true 3-4 nose tackle for another. Wade Phillips says he can work different players into his scheme, but there's too much of a risk with Johnson. And to quote Lloyd Bentsen, I've seen T.O., and Tank Johnson is no T.O. Owens is a game-changer. You take chances on those guys. Johnson is not.
Todd didn't even mention that Johnson has to sit out eight games after he signs with a team. This is a guy that spent $700 on junk food from the commissary while serving 60 days in jail. What kind of shape will he be in after sitting out over half a season? And there's a much better than zero chance that Tank will be stuffing his face with honeybuns behind bars again before his NFL suspension is up.
