How does Michael Strahan look after being in here for a day?
We did a little more today with him and he continues to get into his week. We threw a lot more at him in the classroom and a lot more things to work with as we advance in the week, so we are moving along.
No aches, pains, pulls, or strains?
No. I don’t know about the aches or pains, but there are no pulls or strains.
How much did Sam Madison work during practice today?
Sam did a lot. He did pretty much a full turn today. That is close enough. He worked right until the end. We will have to see how he does and how he is tomorrow.
What about Kawika Mitchell?
He did everything, too.
If Madison could come back after all these injuries, then you could pretty much have your whole starting team healthy?
Well, with a few exceptions, yeah.
It could be a fairly healthy team though?
I hope. That is what we are moving towards. I would like to get them all back. Obviously the whole intent with the long weekend, playing on Thursday, is getting all the way into the next week with a chance to have treatment and rehab for four days.
Is this going to be tough for Sam Madison, are you going to have to have someone backing him up just in case?
We will see. We will have to see how the next couple days go.
When do you have to make the call on activating Strahan?
I mentioned yesterday that probably we can go as late as Saturday.
What is the general mindset of the team heading into the opener?
I think it is good. I think they are excited about playing. I think we’ve come through camp in good shape as far as our attitude goes and it has been demonstrated many times over and they are looking forward to getting the season started.
What do you take from your quick start to the 2006 season and then falling off as the season progressed?
Every year is a new year so we look forward to this year.
How does Plaxico Burress look after two days of practice?
He is working his way though things as well. A lot of his opportunites… he hasn’t been out there for a while so he is working his way through his week, increasing a little bit each time, and doing OK.
Is it a matter of getting him up to speed or getting him healthy?
He feels better; I’ll put it that way.
When you made the choice on the kicker what was the bottom line?
They were both very close. I told Josh (Huston) that. I thought Josh had done some very good things in camp. I think that he is going to one day play in this league and I think that he needs to work on a lot of the different things that go along with driving the ball, for example, on kickoffs. As I said, I think it was very encouraging for him. They were very close. They were very close.
Is Lawrence Tynes the kicker for Sunday?
He will be the guy.
How confident do you feel with Brandon Jacobs and Reuben Droughns replacing the productivity of Tiki Barber?
I think that they have had good preseasons, along with (Derrick) Ward, along with (Ahmad) Bradshaw. I like the compliments that they all make to one another and we look forward to seeing how this thing plays out over the course of a game or four quarters and the ability to use some people here and there in different situations.
Has Dallas changed both offensively and defensively this season with the new coaching staff?
You can see that Wade (Phillips) and his staff have had an obvious impact on the changes. There is no question about changes. It is one thing to be playing what everybody thinks is a 3-4 but every one of their 3-4s is different and how it is played is different. What we do to have knowledge of is the personnel, but how they play us is a whole different ball game.
Would you rather not open the season against a division rival?
The first game on the schedule is Dallas; there is no sense in talking about what I feel like I should do and what I would like to have happen. We are playing Dallas on Sunday night.
How would you describe Wade Phillips’ 3-4?
The description is the different techniques. They play different techniques from time to time.
How does a healthy Terrell Owens bode for your secondary?
There is no question about Terrell Owens and his ability and what he brings to the table. We have faced him in Philadelphia, we have faced him in Dallas, and he is a good football player. Their compliment of receivers is an issue obviously. Terry Glenn plays, there is another guy. They have (Jason) Witten. They have a nice compliment of guys that have demonstrated over the years that they can certainly be productive. You have to be aware of all of them.
