Phillips:
-I'm ready to get this thing cranked up. It's time.
-Injuries are something you go through. It's part of the game. I'm a little worried some of our guys aren't playing, but I have confidence the other guys can step up.
-I think Newman will play vs. the NYFG. I don't know much about his injury but I do know guys throughout the years that have played with the injury. We'll just have to see if it plays out right. The guys I knew played the whole season with little or no problems.You have to rest it a bit for the swelling to go down. The trainers tell me either he will be ready to play quickly or it will take quite a while. I think he'll be ready to go quickly.
-The NYFG have a really good rush even without Strahan. We have to stay out of definite passing situations. They have a new scheme much like Philly as the new guy is from Philly. They don't give up big plays so you have to pound it out with the running game.
-Even without Tiki they are running the ball well from what I see in preseason. They are averaging 5.1 ypc so somebody up there is blocking well. Eli is also playing pretty well.
-My philosophy is that you have to stop the run first; especially at home. We're a pressure team but we don't totally focus on rushing the QB as some think. You can't give up the big play and be successful.
-On Glenn being released. We felt like the guys we have are what we needed. We look at guys that we think can start for us down the road. What they can help with in other areas like ST. They have to be guys of character, which Aaron certainly was but we like the guys we kept.
-The way we do it and have always done it is you just stay at work til you get it done. Some days you are there longer than others. Some guys say it takes them 15 hours a day and it makes me wonder what they are doing. It doesn't take me that long to figure it out. Friday night is date night, with your wife of course, and the rest of the week is work time.
-We have confidence in Folk. He hasn't really missed anything in practice and none in games. Now he will obviously miss some, but you just have to go on the consistency he has shown.
-Every game is the biggest game of the year. I'm excited to get going. After this game it will only be one game and the next game is the biggest of the year. That's how I approach things.
