Michael Strahan's body is telling him he'll be ready to play on Sunday against the Cowboys.
"I feel good -- I'll see how I feel (today)," the Giants' defensive end said yesterday. "I ran a lot more plays (yesterday) than I've run the last two days. As long as I feel good, I'll be out there."
Coach Tom Coughlin and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo haven't given Strahan the green light just yet. Both said they'll likely wait until tomorrow before deciding whether to activate Strahan, though it's likely they will.
"I'm doing everything in the playbook," he said. "I ran basically every play in the defensive period (yesterday). There were a few things I was a little confused about. But for the most part, it's not that difficult."
S Will Demps' tenure with the Giants is officially over after only one season. As expected, the team reached an injury settlement with Demps, GM Jerry Reese confirmed. Demps, who signed a five-year, $12-million contract with the Giants before last season, is now free to sign with any other team once his dislocated elbow heals.
According to someone who spoke to Demps yesterday, the Eagles, Panthers, Ravens and Texans are the three most likely landing spots for the sixth-year veteran. The person, who requested anonymity because Demps is mulling his options, said former Giants defensive coordinator and current Carolina secondary coach Tim Lewis would welcome Demps to his defensive backfield.
Notes: DE Osi Umenyiora was excused from practice yesterday to be present for the birth of his first child. ... LB Gerris Wilkinson (knee) participated in individual drills for the first time since suffering his injury early in camp. ... Cowboys WR Terry Glenn (knee) is out for the season. LB Greg Ellis (Achilles) is also expected to miss the game, and CB Terence Newman (foot) will try to play through pain. ... The Giants gave their players more T-shirts with a new slogan: "Prove it."
