Cowboys need Brady to feel heat

08:01 PM CDT on Friday, October 12, 2007

Brian Stewart, the Cowboys' defensive coordinator, has been asked numerous times this week how to handle New England quarterback Tom Brady.

Each time, Stewart remained calm in describing what needs to be done.

Pressure, which leads to sacks, which leads to hurried throws, which leads to interceptions is what the Cowboys need to do against Brady on Sunday.

It's something Stewart and coach Wade Phillips have preached the moment they arrived at Valley Ranch.

Brady is a quarterback who wants to know everything on the field. If the pressure is coming from the right side, he wants to know about it.

Stewart said the Cowboys don't want to be tricky because they don't want to confuse themselves.

Instead, as Stewart said the other day, "We're going to just do what we do."

That's normally rush four then mix in an Anthony Spencer as a fifth rusher. Don't be surprised to see a cornerback blitz from Nate Jones, which has occurred several times this season.

So if you think all this won't affect Brady, remember, he's 1-1 against Phillips in his career. Last year, he threw three interceptions and was sacked twice in a playoff victory over San Diego, whose defense was coached by Phillips. What's more, Brady compiled a career-playoff low 57.6 quarterback rating.

There has been all this talk about what Patriots coach Bill Belichick is going to do against Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. But what is Phillips going to do against Brady?
