Romo, The Age of the Golden Boy Returns
author unknown
The Golden Boy, that was the term to describe the legendary former Green Bay Packer, Paul Horning. It could also be used to describe the current and future quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, Tony Romo. In a victory against the St. Louis Rams, Romo, by his play, is defining himself a proto-type QB of the future. Sure he made some mistakes, but who in this game does not. It is what we use to grow, as people and in his case an athlete. We must fall to test our strength and resiliency to get back up and that's what Romo's solo int. was against the Rams. But what seem to be almost sure points for the Rams, turned into a test of the Cowboys defense as well, and for anyone who saw the game, they passed, holding the Rams to a field goal attempt that sailed wide right. Romo's response? A drive that went 8 plays and 80 yards. 2nd test after Romo's Int.? On a 3rd and 3 play, Andre Gurode sends the ball sailing over Romo's head. His response, he chases the ball down going back 33 yards to the Cowboys 17, only to pick it up and find his way back 36 yards into Rams territory to pick up the first down and then finish off the 12 play, 83 yard drive for another score, running the final 15 yards to take it in himself. Definitely an "A" on that drive. Romo finished the day completing 21 of 33 attempts for 339 yards with 3 td's and 1 int., bringing him to 72 of 121 for 1199 yards passing, 11 td's and 3 ints., with a passer rating of 112.9. Romo is not only pulling his own weight, he is helping to lift his team to a higher place and through it all, remains humble, knowing that he was just lucky enough to be on the field. Romo has laid low for the most part of his career, just happy to have a job in the NFL as an undrafted free agent coming out of Eastern Illinois. In my opinion, Jerry Jones needs to sign this guy and quick. Romo on the other hand is playing it as cool as if he had a defender coming on his blind side, but still getting the job done, knowing full well that things will take care of themselves as long as he just does what he is capable of doing. And right now those things seems about as large as the National Debt. But through it all Romo continues shine and is worth worth his weight in gold.
