DMN Blog: Franchise tags and Ken Hamlin

by Calvin Watkins

Ok, let's clear the air on something.

The Cowboys are not going franchise anyone. Why would they? It's not in their makeup. Now they did it a few years ago with Flo Adams, but have no plans on doing it now.

So, let's stop this “The Cowboys could franchise this guy or that guy”.
It's not going to happen.

There's been talk on the blog that Ken Hamlin could leave the Cowboys for someplace else.

Sure he can. But Hamlin would prefer to remain in Dallas.

The Cowboys have a good relationship with Hamlin's agent Kennard McGuire, who did the big money deal for Andre Gurode last year and was Terence Newman's original agent.

Hamlin solidified the free safety position last season (second on the team with five interceptions) and is the only starter in the secondary to start every game in 2007. Think about that for a moment. Cornerbacks Anthony Henry and Newman missed games due to injuries and Roy Williams was benched for two games so the Cowboys could play a special nickel package.

There is a good chance that Hamlin returns.
