DMN Blog: Battle for Walker gets competitive

by Albert Breer

We had it in the paper a couple days back that the Cowboys are giving consideration to making a serious run at free-agent WR Javon Walker, cut by the Broncos on the first day of free agency.

Looks like they aren't the only ones. Friend of Cowboys Blog Michael Smith, of ESPN.com, is reporting that no less than 10 teams are part of the Walker sweepstakes. All four NFC East teams, plus the 49ers, Bills, Bucs, Panthers, Raiders and Vikings have made overtures.

Smith reports, as we've detailed here, that the Cowboys have an inherent advantage because of receivers coach Ray Sherman, who was Walker's position coach in Green Bay and remains a close confidant. The Eagles also have an edge, because the guy who would be Walker's quarterback there is his training partner now.
