Key Dallas Cowboys Off Season Moves

The NFL off season has been moving right along since the Giants upset the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Lots of players have changed teams or resigned with their old team. The Dallas Cowboys are America's team so I thought I would do an article about their off season moves thus far. This article will cover main stream players who should make a real difference, and does not cover ALL player signings by the Cowboys. As I write this it is April 7th 2008 at around 5:30 PM eastern time. Any player moves that take place after this of course will not be in this article.
Perhaps the most important off season move by the Dallas Cowboys was preventing offensive coordinator Jason Garrett from leaving to take a Head Coach position for another NFL team. It is very possible that Garret and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones have a deal for Jason to take over as head coach in 2009. This almost makes current Cowboys coach Wade Phillips a lame duck. Garrett was wise to stick around as see what happens as any new team he joined won't have the offensive talent the Cowboys do.
On to the players, the biggest thing in the news at press time is a possible trade for Pacman Jones from the Tennessee Titans who may be the closest thing to Deion Sanders since well Deion Sanders. The problem is Jones is often in legal trouble and was suspended for the 2007 season for that reason. The Cowboys have had success with troubles athletes (Owens comes to mind) but Jones is a thug and it could blow up in their face. But if the trade goes through (they are squabbling over the price) and Jones keeps his head on straight it could help Dallas regain Super Bowl glory.
Key Losses this offseason for the Cowboys were former franchise running back Julius Jones who left as a free agent to join the Seattle Seahawks. This clears the way for the better back Marion Barber to be a full time starter. Also former Dallas Cowboys defensive backs Jacques Reeves, Kenneth Davis and Nathan Jones have joined the Texas, Dolphins and Dolphins respectively. Defensive Tackle Jason Ferguson was traded to the Miami Dolphins and their new boss Bill Parcells.
