The Dallas Cowboys signed a pair of journeymen offensive linemen: tackle Cory Lekkerkerker and guard Adam Stenavich.
Lekkerkerker, a three-year veteran who entered the league as a rookie free agent with San Diego, spent the 2007 season with Miami, playing in 11 games and starting two. Stenavich, who signed with Carolina as a rookie free agent in 2006, was out of the league last season after spending 2006 on Green Bay’s practice squad.
Also, the Cowboys announced they will report to training camp in Oxnard, Calif., on July.24.
Jones backs Williams : Cowboys safety Roy Williams received a ringing endorsement from owner Jerry Jones.
Williams has come under fire from fans and the media for expressing doubts recently about whether he fits into coach Wade Phillips’ version of the 3-4 defense. The former Oklahoma standout struggled in pass coverage last season, a fact that resulted in Phillips taking him off the field in obvious passing situations late in the season.
“I have, candidly, a lot of confidence in Roy Williams’ competitiveness, his record as an outstanding football player,” Jones told reporters in Grapevine, Texas. “I know what a competitor he is, I know what a team player he is, and that hasn’t changed as far as I’m concerned. And for us to be the team we want to be, we need Roy to really be the player he can be. That’s possible to do here.”
Jones said he expects Williams to benefit from the presence of two new coaches: Dave Campo, who will guide the secondary, and Brett Maxie, who will mentor the safeties.“I have a lot of faith in Roy Williams,” Jones said.
