DMN Blog: Williams adresses "critics"
by Albert Breer
Roy Williams threw out the first pitch at Saturday night's Oklahoma RedHawks game. He also talked to the Oklahoman's Matt Patterson.
Williams shared some of his memories of the "Super Roy" play from the Texas-OU game in 2001. And then he got on to more current matters ...
Fellow defensive back Terence Newman said Williams had a "deer in the headlights" look in coverage last season. If Williams is bothered by it, he isn't letting on.
"I know that people probably mixed his words up," he said. "Terence told me what he said. He said a lot of good things in the first part. The media takes what they want to hear. Me and Terence are boys."
Williams insists his teammates haven't lost faith in him. Sporting an "I am what I am" bracelet on his right wrist, he finds strength in religion.
"Ever since I've rededicated my life to Christ I've caught way more persecution now," he said. "But it's a beautiful thing because I know it's a breakthrough coming for me. I welcome it. What makes me any better than Christ? He was persecuted and I've been persecuted. My teammates know where my heart is. They know where my mind is at."
I'm just going to let you guys react to this one.
